Wealth of Time
“Time is free, but it’s priceless. You can’t own it, but you can use it. You can’t keep it, but you can spend it. Once you’ve lost it, you can never get it back.” – Harvey Mackay
A major area of true wealth is time. Fabulous, precious time. I think it is no coincidence we speak about time the way we speak about money: how we can spend, save and waste money, all the same wording can apply to time as well.
Time is wealth, and someone who has the freedom to do what they want has wealth. I go deeper into this in my book, but the spectrum of time poverty to time wealth is a spectrum of experiencing time as chaos to flow. The more you are in a flow state in your daily experience, the more time wealth you have.
At one extreme, your time can be experienced as a complete reactive state of chaos where you are busy going from one thing to another, feeling you have no control, on autopilot, wondering what you actually achieved in all that frenzy by the end of the day. On another extreme, your time could be spent in a calm and purposeful flow state where you joyfully and purposefully go from one intentional action to another with focus and productivity. Most people are somewhere in between these two extremes but leaning towards the chaos polarity.
Time can be fluid for us. For example we can ‘waste’ time with destructive activities, or things that are simply unimportant to us like socially imposed activities. Alternatively, we can save time by delegating to others. Another way of saving time is by enhancing our skills. When we have greater skills in studying, working, and in our domestic life we can save time by being more efficient. The more we gradually have choice over that time, and the more we can find flow in time, the wealthier we are in this area.
Do not spend your time; experience it. It is valuable, enjoy it. Time experienced well creates priceless memories and a golden life.
How do you like to experience your time?
